Biography
Marlo has joined the School of Social Work as the Community Field Liaison. Prior to her work with UBCO, Marlo has and continues to work with Interior Health Authority as a Registered Social Worker in Primary Care. Marlo obtained her Bachelor of Social Work from University of British Columbia in 2011 and went on to achieve her Master of Social Work through University of Waterloo, given the health-focused programming. Beyond her interest of Social Work in Health and Innovating Healthcare, Marlo holds specific curiosity for Trauma, Resiliency, Lifespan Development, Motivation, and Leadership/Mentorship. She has worked on several multidisciplinary teams throughout her career and highly values the collective, team-based approach to person-centred care. Marlo also comes with several years of experience in the Non-Profit Sector; holding various position in front-line Social Work. She is excited to bring her knowledge and experience with her into this position of supporting Master’s students in their application of learning(s) to the Field Education experience. Marlo is proud to identify as an Advocate for many. She enjoys spending time with her family and being active in nature; camping, hiking, swimming, & fishing. A favourite pastime is running with her rescue pup,Peach.
Responsibilities
As the Community Field Education Liaison, Marlo is a practicing Social Worker employed by UBCO. She is responsible for assisting the Field Education Coordinators in the administrative responsibilities for Field Education; collaborating on the creation and execution of Orientations, Seminars and Workshops for Students and Field Education Instructors, as well as assisting in Integrative Seminars. Marlo is also responsible for the role of Field Education Liaison between the Social work program, the Field Education Instructor, and the Student.
